IKAA Mini-Gathering in NYC

Welcome to the IKAA International Mini-Gathering New York City!
April 16-19, 2009!

Come to New York City April 16-19, 2009 for the IKAA International Mini-Gathering New York City! With an expected attendance of over 150 adult adoptees, come join us for an extended weekend filled with fun, friends and entertainment! There will be workshops, film screenings, presentations and endless opportunities to explore all that New York City has to offer (which is a lot…)! This is a great chance for you to visit “The City” and make new friends or catch up with old buddies!

Airlines are having BIG sales on flights right now, so book quickly before all the discounted seats are gone!  And we’ve obtained a group rate on a block of hotel rooms at the Hotel Pennsylvania, located centrally on the island of Manhattan, only 2 blocks from Koreatown!

Rooms are only $179/room (1 bed)/night or $209/room (2 beds)/night + taxes, which is a fantastic rate for New York City!
Hotel reservations can be made online here or by accessing their group reservations page through the main Hotel Pennsylvania website (www.hotelpenn.com) and entering the code “IKAA” (if you book through a third party source like Expedia or Travelocity, we don’t get “credit” for your reservation, so please make your reservations directly!).

You can register for the Mini-Gathering AND reserve your room at the Hotel Pennsylvania at the IKAA Website: here.

Also, please keep checking the website as we update the itinerary for the weekend and supplemental information to ease your stay here in the Big Apple!

For those who are interested in Korean cooking, we have arranged for 2 sessions of cooking classes on Friday, April 17th with Youngsun Lee, Executive Chef and owner of Persimmon Kimchi House.

These two sessions will be held concurrently with Friday workshops. Due to the space limitations of the restaurant kitchen, each session will be limited to 15 people.

There will be a separate registration for the cooking sessions, which will open on Monday, February 23rd at 4:00pm EST (West Coast USA: 1:00pm; Europe: 10:00pm). Registrations will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis and will be an additional fee of $20 per person.

The specific menus will be solidified closer to the event, but may include bi bim bap (mixed vegetables and beef with rice), hae mool kimchi jeon (seafood and kimchi pancake), and si geum chi dwen jang gook (spinach bean paste soup)and both sessions will make the same menu.

For more information about Youngsun Lee and Persimmon Kimchi House, please visit his website: http://www.persimmoncuisine.com/
**NOTE 1: If you sign up for the first cooking session, you will miss the age-breakout sessions, which are wonderful opportunities to meet and engage in discussions with other adoptees who are similar in age.

**NOTE 2: If you participate in the cooking sessions, you will miss the group lunch on Friday afternoon. The portion of the registration fee that would have gone towards Friday’s lunch has been applied to the cooking session fee, reducing it to $20 from $30.

One Comment on “IKAA Mini-Gathering in NYC

  1. Wow! That sounds like a great line up of festivities. I would be particularly interested in the Korean cooking lessons. Sadly, traveling to NY isn’t in my budget right now.

Do you have any events in Florida?
