Katherine Heigl to Adopt From Korea

Thanks as always to K@W for this post.  Yet another star is adopting, and this time from Korea.  Ok, some of you may watch Grey’s Anatomy, so I won’t blast the show, however, I do know who Katherine Heigl is.  The one thing I did not know, was that her older sister Meg, is a Korean adoptee.  Although I can’t really confirm this through google, I was able to find a photo of her sister Meg in wedding photos.  In any event, I’m not surprised by her remarks, “I’m done with the whole idea of having my own children. It
doesn’t seem like any fun.”  We see this language all the time.  The whole notion of biological vs adopted children is always expressed this way.  sigh…well, sorry for being all tabloidish with this post.  -GS

Kelley are planning to adopt a child from South Korea within the next
year, according to reports.

The couple has reportedly chosen South Korea because Heigl’s older
sister Meg was adopted from the country.

A source tells the National Enquirer, “Meg has had a profound impact
on Katherine’s life, which is why she and Josh are trying to adopt a
Korean child.”

“They’ve chosen an adoption agency and have started filing the
necessary paperwork. They haven’t gone public with the news yet
because they want to make sure there are no problems before they make
an announcement.”

Earlier this year Heigl, 29, revealed she had abandoned plans to have
a biological child with singer Kelley, who she married December 2007.

She said, “I’m done with the whole idea of having my own children. It
doesn’t seem like any fun. I don’t think it’s necessary to go through
all of that.”

2 Comments on “Katherine Heigl to Adopt From Korea

  1. Heigl made those comments whilst joking in a press conference for Knocked Up! on the subject of pregnancy – the theme of the movie. For the media to be requoting that in a completely different context is both unfair and ridiculous.

  2. I saw another article in which “a source” was quoted as saying that Heigl was going to adopt from Korea because she didn’t want to put her film career on hold by getting pregnant — something basically suggesting that adopting was the easier way to come by a child, without having to sacrifice her own body and her career. And the quote, of course, rubbed me the wrong way, but who can say if these tabloid/gossip rag “sources” are legit or total crap? I guess time will tell.

Anyway, I thought that a requirement for intercountry adoption from Korea was that you had to be married for >3 years. Which makes me wonder if the reports are completely bogus, or if they’re true and they’ll be given special priority based on their celeb status, a la Madonna and Angelina. >_<
